Cooking and Prep Tips

Stefano's begins the food preparation process by mixing the dough, filling with meats and cheeses and baking, but you, our consumer, complete it by further baking or microwaving our items. Although our labels are created to provide clear preparation instructions, you may want to follow these additional videos and tips.

Refrigerated Products

Deli pizza can be a great meal for the entire family. Be sure to:

  • Pre-heat the oven to the indicated temperature
  • For that authentic pizzeria experience, bake directly on the rack. A pan will prevent the crust from baking properly.
  • Position the rack in the middle of the oven to balance top heat that browns the cheese and bottom heat that bakes the crust.
  • After baking, allow the pizza to sit for about a minute before slicing. Be careful, though, the sauce can be hot.

Many consumer calls we receive report that the package microwave time overheats the product. As microwaves (and frozen temperatures) vary, you may want to try 2/3 of the suggested time, check that the necessary internal temperature has been reached and, if needed, continue heating in small increments. How can you tell if a product is overheated? Most often, fillings excessively run out or the dough hardens.
When using a conventional oven, the directions often include wrapping the product in foil. Foil is used to slow the drying effect upon the dough as the filling has a chance to heat. Make sure the product is well wrapped (no gaps).
We sometimes receive calls asking if a refrigerated product can be re-frozen. We do not advise re-freezing thawed products.

  • Something to try: For a faster oven-baked quality product, use ½ the microwave time and then finish in the oven. Products are ready when the target internal temperature is reached.
